The
International
Association of Engineering Geologists has proposed the formal recognition
of selected important stone through their designation as Global Heritage
Stone Resources. This is being co-ordinated and developed under the aegis
of Commission
C10 by Barry Cooper at the University of South Australia, Adelaide.
This initiative is being supported in the UK by the English Stone Forum
(ESF) and the Welsh Stone Forum (WSF).
Draft citation criteria have been circulated to interested organisations and people and ESF has commented on these. As a trial of the citation process a draft proposal for Portland stone has been produced.
