  • In 1954 the British Stone Federation, forerunner of the Stone Federation Great Britain, began an occasional series of information sheets about British stone and its use.  These are reproduced below with their permission. 

    They are primarily historical documents and, although much of what they contain is still correct, the technical specifications for stone construction changed in the following 50 years and therefore the technical details should not be relied on.  Nonetheless these details will be useful to anyone working on older buildings especially if major alterations are planned. Stone Federation GB publishes up-to-date technical advice.
